Start a New Diary

Objective: Once you’ve set up your account, you can create a diary (or Blog) to introduce new subject matter in BelowBoston.com. By creating a new diary, you are setting up a table in this virtual café and asking people to join your discussion on a new topic about the political landscape of the South Shore.

To create a new Blog, start by logging into BelowBoston.com, and follow these basic guidelines.

- Below the lighthouse in the upper left corner is the “Menu/FAQ” box.

- Click on the “New Diary” option in the Menu/FAQ menu box.
|
|
- A “Submit New Story” window opens. Before you start, you should read the “Rules” concerning the Community Guidelines for BelowBoston.com.
|
|
- The “Title” tells others what your Blog is all about. It should be clear and concise, but you can be as creative as you wish!
|
|
- The “Main Text” box is a short intro to your message which appears on the main screen. This should be a brief statement that will encourage readers to see more about what you have to say on the subject.
|
|
- “Preview” will show you what the diary will look like once it’s posted on the Web.
|
|
- When you click “Preview,” your post is displayed above the “Rules” box. You can preview your new post now, when you’ve completed it, or at any time in between.
|
|
- Notice that the “Save” button now appears to the right of the Preview button. If you wanted to post only the Main Text of your message, you would click the Save button.
|
|
- “Extended Text” is the body of your topic. Once you’ve written your message (or at any time before you click “Save”), you can Preview the entire Blog, proofread your entry, and make changes.

|
- Below your text is a “Formatting” drop-down box. If you stay with “Auto-Format,” BelowBoston.Com will handle all the nitty-gritty HTML stuff. Or, you can use the “No Formatting” option if you know how to program in HTML and prefer to set your own styles.

|
- The “Diary Topic” box allows you to list your post under the appropriate topic.
|
|
- Select the most appropriate category for your new entry. (Note: If you would like to add a new subject to the topic list, please email: bowes3@yahoo.com.)

|
- Once you’ve previewed your entry and made any necessary changes, you can hit the “Save” button.
|
|
- Your diary entry is now displayed as it appears on BelowBoston.com.
|
|
- Go back to the Home page for the BelowBoston.com. Your new post should be listed under “Recent Diaries” on the far right side of the page. Click on the Title of your message.

|
- Your new diary appears on the main screen.
|
|
- Click the + to the left of your title, or click “There’s More” under your Main Entry.
|
|
- Now you can see your entire post. You can go back and edit your diary, change the title or content of your original Blog, or simply watch for other comments!

- Select the welcome for a diary topic
|
|
- Now hit the save the button
|
|
- Your diary entry now displays
|
|
- go back to the home page for the BelowBoston..com. No the right hand side is Subjects box notice that the welcome topic has increased by one.

- Click the welcome topic
|
|
- Your new diary appears on top
|
|
- Click the + to the left of your title
|
|
- Now go back and edit your diary. Change the title and content of your first diary. Talk about what ever you want.
